Long-time president of Los Angeles-based printer steps down; Son Christopher takes helm.

Pennell has assumed the role of president from his father, Donald R. Pennell, the long-time owner of The Ligature. While Don Pennell will remain as chairman, he has relinquished the day-to-day management activities of the printing company to Christopher. In addition, Baird Conner will assume Christopher’s former position as general manager of The Ligature’s San Francisco printing plant and will report directly to Christopher.
“Christopher brings a leadership, knowledge and creativity to the position that will infuse energy into The Ligature and continue the longstanding success of the business,” said Don Pennell, who has owned and managed The Ligature since 1976. “Along with Baird’s capable management in San Francisco, I’m confident that the future of our printing business will be as bright as the past.”
Christopher Pennell has worked at The Ligature since 1977, and has spent the last 10 years managing its Seattle and San Francisco printing plants. While at those plants, Christopher modernized many of the pre-press and printing techniques, revitalized the printing and engraving equipment and brought in key personnel to drive the business forward. His changes proved successful. During his management tenure, the Seattle plant increased its revenue three-fold, while the San Francisco plant enjoyed a 20% increase in revenue. He now brings that same leadership, and his track-record of success, to The Ligature’s 50,000 square foot production facility in Los Angeles.
Baird Conner was hired in August of 2001 as a sales executive, and was responsible for bringing on some of The Ligature’s largest customers, including Charles Schwab, Franklin Templeton Funds, SRI International and Ziff-Davis.
