RCN Wins Two Stevie Awards in 5th Annual American Business Awards
Company Receives Awards in Best Turn Around Business & Best Communication Organization Categories.
Herndon, VA (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 13, 2007 -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of video, data, and voice services to residential and business customers, announced today that it won Stevie Awards for the categories of Best Turn Around Business and Best Communication Organization in The 2007 American Business Awards announced last night.
Hailed as "the business world's own Oscars" (New York Post, April 27, 2005), The American Business Awards are the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business.
Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word "crowned," the awards were presented during ceremonies at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. The ceremonies were hosted by Larry Wilmore of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, videocast live on the internet, and broadcast nationwide on radio.
In accepting the Stevie for Best Turn Around Business, RCN President & CEO Peter Aquino said, "When I look at what RCN has been able to accomplish in such a short time, I recognize what an outstanding team effort this has been. Our distinguished board of directors, a senior executive team that is at the top of its game, and our dedicated managers and employees who work tirelessly every day are the key to this achievement."
Aquino added, "My thanks to Team RCN, who has taken us from bankruptcy to Broadway tonight, and I share this award with all of them. I'm also pleased that Richard Ramlall and his organization were recognized for their outstanding communication effort."
Stevie Awards were presented in over 40 categories including Best Overall Company, Best Executive, and Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program. More than 2,000 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration.
In accepting the award in the Best Communication Organization, RCN Senior VP, Strategic & External Affairs Richard Ramlall said, "Our department is unique. It combines investor relations, public relations and government relations and is a tightly integrated, unified and interdependent operation. This group is a mix of staff and consultants whose talents, efforts and expertise have made this recognition possible. I thank them all, but a special thanks to my CEO, Pete Aquino for empowering this team."
Members of the Awards' Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs selected Stevie winners from among the Finalists. Finalists were chosen by business professionals nationwide during preliminary judging in April and May.
The elegant Stevie trophy was designed by R. S. Owens, the same company that makes the Oscar® and the Emmy.
