Chickonomics Chat, a Popular Podcast for Women, Tackles Challenges to Title IX
Lisa Orrell, author, motivational speaker, and creator and host of Chickonomics Chat--a podcast designed to educate and inspire women in business, education, entertainment, politics science and sports--offers insights on challenges to Title IX as landmark legislation approaches 35th anniversary.
Campbell, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2007 -- Chickonomics Chat, a popular podcast for women in business, education, entertainment, politics, science and sports, announced its newest edition as Lisa Orrell, Chief Chick of Chickonomics, conducts an informative interview with veteran women's rights advocate and Title IX expert, Deborah Larkin. Larkin and Orrell discuss recent changes, backed by the Bush administration, that could negatively impact athletic and other programs, for girls and young women nationwide.
Title IX, also known as the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in education Act, ensures that no person, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
"I came across this issue while doing research for my new book, Chickonomics, and was furious!" exclaims Orrell. "There is a sneaky loophole that was quietly added to this important law last year that could set back Title IX funded programs for girls (and boys) about 40 years. I immediately contacted Deborah to tell us all about it."
Deborah Larkin's extensive women's rights background more than qualifies her to discuss this topic. Larkin is a principle of the MARGARET (May All Resolve Girls Achieve Real Equity Today) Fund, and creator of I eXercise My Rights, a public service campaign designed to educate people about Title IX, which included the creation of the TitleIX.info website. Larkin has served as the Executive Director of the Women's Sports Foundation, and is a former member of the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
