Treatment4Addiction.com Debuts as a Source of Information and Hope for People Battling Addictions
Introduced in April, the site is staffed by individuals who have overcome addictions and provides a one-stop online resource to find treatment centers and professionals, and communicate with others fighting similar challenges.
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) May 21, 2008 -- As a cross between Web MD and Facebook, Treatment4Addiction.com is a pioneer in social media technology. The site -- which debuted in April and serves as a one-stop online resource for addicts to find treatment centers and licensed professionals, and communicate with others facing similar challenges -- is one of the first on the web to apply emerging social media elements to the more traditional treatment and addiction sector.
At Treatment4Addiction.com visitors will find more than 50,000 treatment facilities, recovery programs, interventionists and professional resources. Individuals can read and write reviews of recovery centers, search for treatment facilities based on location or specialty, and read bios of clinicians and therapists nationwide.
Importantly, the site also provides a free consultation and independent referral service for people searching for drug rehab / recovery solutions.
Mike Bayer -- who lives in Los Angeles, is a recovered drug addict and serves a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor -- co-founded Treatment4Addiction.com with his brother, David Bayer, who is president and founder of Orlando-based Databanq Media, an Internet technology company that specializes in developing and managing informational web sites, online business directories and other publishing platforms.
"When we're born, we're whole and throughout the course of life we experience loss that has a negative impact on who we are," David Bayer explained. "For some it is sobriety. For others it may be compassion or courage, or an understanding of how to have healthy relationships, or more effectively manage their day-to-day lives."
"Treatment4Addiction.com is a forum for people to recover their wholeness through the sharing of knowledge, information and personal experiences," Bayer added. "It is not solely for individuals with drug and/or alcohol dependencies. It is also for people who have addictions to food, sex and gambling among other dependencies, and it is a community where visitors can learn more about mental health disorders like anxiety and depression."
The foundation of Treatment4Addiction.com is based on Step 12 of Alcoholics Anonymous, "Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs."
Not only can visitors learn more about treatment facilities and clinicians nationwide, but they can also build a profile and communicate with others facing similar challenges. Treatment centers and professionals can create profiles as well, and publish articles and studies to help those facing addictions and their family identify solutions.
"The social networking aspect of our site is especially important because it serves as a support system for people who are searching for treatment facilities, in the process of getting treatment or finished with treatment," David Bayer said. "Treatment4Addiction is best described as a cross between WebMD and Facebook."
The site is staffed by individuals who are former addicts and now sober. Mike Bayer believes this is important since those seeking help can talk to people who have overcome the same challenges.
"We get calls from people in need of immediate help. When you are addicted, you don't plan to go into treatment a couple months from now. You want an immediate solution," said Mike Bayer, who visits all of the treatment centers that are reviewed on the site. "We can empathize with people who are struggling and give them instruction manual to solve their problem. It's up to them whether they want to follow through."
Jennifer Jimenez understands this first-hand. The Treatment4Addiction.com intake director who fields calls on 866-59-REHAB and talks to individuals about their options was addicted to crystal meth for much of her teen-age years and 20s. She lost custody of her children before entering a treatment program and, like Bayer, choosing to devote her life to people fighting addictions and addiction treatment. Now she is happily married, she is a doting mother to her children and she is dedicated to helping others who feel the despair that once enveloped her world.
"Treatment4Addiction is a destination that gives people hope, before and after their treatment," said Jimenez, who is now 40. "I didn't have hope when I got clean. I figured I had ruined entire life because I was in my 30s and had a long rap sheet."
"It's important to know no matter how old you are or where you are in your life, you can overcome whatever addiction you are facing. If you are still breathing, there is still hope."
